No Need to Wait for National Day – This Fireworks Show Happens Every Night In Sentosa

We all know that National Day in Singapore is the time of year for over-the-top fireworks and music. But what if we told you there’s a full-blown light-and-fireworks extravaganza that takes place daily. Yes. Every. Single. Night. Complete with a mythical bird, robotic fountains, and time travel.

Enter Wings of Time, the award-winning outdoor night show that officially opened today 11 years ago (16 Jul 2014) at Sentosa’s Siloso Beach – and is still dazzling audiences today.

If you grew up with Songs of the Sea, this was the mega-upgrade that replaced it, complete with 3D video mapping, lasers, water effects, and pyrotechnics.

From songs to wings

Before Wings of Time, there was Songs of the Sea. Running from 2007 to 2014, this OG seaside show pulled in a whopping 8.3 million visitors over 5,000 shows, thanks to its live cast, dramatic water effects, and singalong-friendly vibe.

After a heartfelt farewell on 4 May 2014, the venue underwent a makeover - and a major glow-up. Just two months later, on 16 July, Wings of Time officially launched. It kept the same beachside theatre but swapped in a 10m-tall new backdrop, upgraded tech, and a fresh storyline.

Both shows were produced by ECA2, the team behind the France World Cup 1998 ceremonies and the Beijing 2008 Olympic ceremonies.

What actually happens during the show?

The story centres around Shahbaz, a mystical bird of time and his friends on a magical journey across time and space.

No spoilers – but you’ll follow the trio through epic landscapes set against the open sea like The Silk Road, Mayan pyramids, and African savannas, through stunning visual effects, vibrant water fountains, and dynamic 3D projections.

Wings of Time took a two-year hiatus during the pandemic. But in May 2022, it returned brighter and better than ever. Now, the revamped version continues to run every night, charming both locals and tourists alike with its blend of nostalgia and new-age tech.
