What To Watch, Listen To, And Try This Weekend (April 10-12)

It’s the first weekend of our circuit breaker period, and you need something to pass the time at home. Here’s where you can get started:

I need retail therapy but all the stores are closed.

SHOP: Twilight Online

The Australian hawkers’ market is back – online, that is. Shop for handcrafted crafts, clothes, and jewellery; organic bottle drinks; washable mats and flashcards for kids, and more from small local businesses.

Open 6 – 19 April here

I need something to do while laying around at home.

If you want to replicate the experience of talking crap with your friends and colleagues about whatever’s happening in the news, check out the podcast “Yah Lah But”, where Ministry of Funny’s Haresh and Terence riff on everything from SG clubbers to what exactly constitutes an “essential service”.

Listen on Spotify or on PodBean

What about something, uh, classier?

STREAM: Productions on National Theatre Home

Bummed about the cancellation of National Theatre’s War Horse at Esplanade? It’ll be awhile before any of us can go to the theatre, let alone watch theatre shows abroad, so to get your fix, check out National Theatre’s YouTube channel, where they release a full-length production every Thursday night. These include Jane Eyre, which will be released this Thursday, and One Man, Two Guvnors, which stars late-night host James Corden (available until 2 am, 10 April, Singapore time).

What about something for my kids?

Going nuts looking for ways to keep the kids busy? Audible’s got you covered with classics like The Timeless Tales of Beatrix Potter and Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories.

I want to learn a new hobby.

Learn to cook with Massimo Bottura

There’s no better time to upgrade you culinary skills than when you’re cooped in. For inspiration, head over to three Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura’s Instagram, where he’s running a series called “Kitchen Quarantine”. (We’re drooling over the video of his Almond Gelato With Pistachio Sauce even as we write this.)
