5 New Cs For The Modern Singaporean
We’re all familiar with the 5Cs that Singaporeans generally aspire to: Cash, Credit Card, Country Club, Condominium and Car. However, according to a study by knowledge-sharing startup Tigerhall, these Cs aren’t entirely accurate anymore, as Singaporeans’ priorities have shifted over the years. Instead, here are the 5Cs that represent Singaporeans’ desires nowadays.
1. Cash (Again)
Surprise surprise, cash is still considered the biggest priority for most Singaporeans (aspirations for a cashless society notwithstanding). How are we supposed to get our bubble tea/avocado toast/salted egg chips if we’re flat broke?
2. Career
This shouldn’t be too much of a shock either, seeing as Singapore is apparently the second most overworked city in the world (Tokyo still has us beat there). Besides, we’re all kiasu in every aspect of our lives, and that includes wanting to outshine our colleagues at work too, right?
3. Cultural Proficiency (aka wanting to travel)
With how small Singapore is, it’s no surprise that we’d develop a strong sense of wanderlust. And when expeditions to exotic places like Sentosa and Yishun are no longer exciting enough, it’s time to set our sights on further shores.
4. Credibility
While you sadly can’t buy bubble tea with it, trust is an important currency when interacting with other people. After all, cash might buy you a packet of salted egg chips, but being trusted is what allows you to say “No, of course I didn’t finish your salted egg chips” and have it accepted as the truth.
5. Convenience
With so many places to go and things to achieve, who wants to waste time on mundane things like commuting and buying food? From Grab to food delivery and cashless payments, we’re always looking for new ways to save time so we can focus on more important tasks, like posting IG photos of our pets.
