Games In July: New Pikmin After 10 Years, And A 4-Player Co-Op Disney Platformer

Still haven't managed to finish Final Fantasy 16? Yeah, we totally get it. The PlayStation 5 being readily available in Singapore feels like both a blessing and a curse. You've got the console, but finding the time to conquer all those new games you bought is a different story.

Thankfully, July is a more relaxed month when it comes to new game releases. Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be any noteworthy titles. We've got our eyes on Pikmin 4 and a new 4-player platformer starring Mickey Mouse and friends, Disney Illusion Island. Here are all our most-awaited games this month.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch

Release date: 7 July

We’re kicking off this list with a JRPG that we had to wait three years for an English release. In this next instalment of the Trails franchise, you get to step into the shoes of one of three heroes: Rean Schwarzer, Lloyd Bannings, or "C". You can switch between these characters whenever you want, as you aim to uncover the truth about the menacing new threat that's causing chaos in the world of Zemuria.

PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X

Release date: 14 July

Capcom's newest multiplayer game thrusts you into the role of an Exofighter, where you join forces with others online to combat an onslaught of dinosaurs emerging from mysterious rifts in space-time. Choose between a diverse range of exosuit armour at your disposal, like Roadblock, a tank character armed with a shield, or the Witchdoctor, capable of healing your comrades. You can switch classes on the fly or enhance your characters with "rigs" that grant abilities from other classes.

PC, PlayStation 5

Release date: 18 July

In this extremely unique video game, you possess the ability to bring pictures to life within the game world. For example, if you select a photograph with a building, it will transpose itself to the game world, so you can climb that building to reach a new ledge. You can also travel "into" a photograph, as the world it depicts becomes real. Viewfinder has a very exciting premise and trailer, and we can’t wait to give it a try.

Pikmin 4
Nintendo Switch

Release date: 21 July

Can you believe it has been a whole decade since Pikmin 3 was released for the Wii U? In this new instalment, you'll once again lead your troops of tiny plant creatures through a vast world, but with an exciting twist. Joining you on your journey is Oatchi, a lovable dog-like companion. You can also choose to go on adventures after dark, where hidden dangers lurk in the night.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons
PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Series S|X, Nintendo Switch

Release date: 27 July

Wah, the Double Dragon series is back in action with Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. This is a reimagining of the legendary franchise, blending a fresh new art style with classic beat-‘em-up gameplay. Choose from 13 characters, including the iconic Billy-and-Jimmy duo, and battle against gangs that have taken over your town. Just like the original, you can team up with a friend for a weekend long co-op play.

Disney Illusion Island
Nintendo Switch

Release date: 28 July

Disney fans, time to jio your friends for game night in this side-scrolling platformer. Play as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy, as you jump, swing, and go through various obstacles and challenges in the island of Monoth. One of the game’s coolest features is being able to heal your friends by getting your characters to hug (aww). We also love the game’s art style, which reminds us old school Disney platformers.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure
iOS via Apple Arcade

Release date: 28 July

Why is a Hello Kitty mobile game included on this list? Because it combines the sim-life gameplay of Animal Crossing with the beloved characters of Hello Kitty. Like the popular video game made famous during the pandemic, you aim to restore a deserted island and make friends with popular Sanrio residents like Hello Kitty, Kuromi, and Cinnamoroll. This is definitely one of July’s most surprising game releases.
