Notice Anything Interesting About This Provision Shop? It's A Miniature Model!

Last October, cardboard artist Wilfred Cheah left us speechless with pictures of a miniature model which captured the difference between two moments in time within the Singapore Army - complete with field pack items!

The man has taken our breath away again by paying tribute to a humble and well-loved provision shop in Ang Mo Kio.

If you live in the area - and, believe us, there's lots to do and (re)discover in Ang Mo Kio - you might recognise Choon Kooi Provision Shop, which sells all manner of dried goods, canned and bottled food, and more:

The crammed but organised shop is a maximalist's dream come true, and Wilfred has captured its essence in what can only be described as painstaking detail.

According to the comments section in his Facebook post, it took him "a whole month" to complete this intricate piece.

Wilfred received so much praise ("Wow, the details, impeccable!", "Simply awesome!", "Wah jin jia swee ah!!") and made so many replies to all the comments that Facebook temporarily suspended his account (one of the company's policies to prevent misuse of the social media platform). But everything's back to normal now.

One of Wilfred's Facebook friends asked in the comments section if the model was for sale ("I want to buy it from u!), to which Wilfred replied, "it's for someone. I can make it again you know". What a fount of talent!

We can't wait to see what's next from this extraordinary Singaporean. Meanwhile, feast your eyes on his piece entitled “Our Hawkers, Our Heritage” (how timely, since Singapore's hawker culture was recently recognised by UNESCO). The work is made out of cardboard, waste paper and recyclable materials at a scale of 1:20.
