CB Receives Magic Touch From 18 S'pore Magicians
Whether intentionally or not, Singapore magician Donovan Tan makes a pertinent point about the live entertainment industry - one of the hardest hit by COVID-19 - in the caption of his latest Facebook post: "For some, we have temporarily lost our jobs, but we didn’t lose our calling. Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. #sgunited"
In a show of resilience - and simple, pure entertainment - 18 Singapore magicians have appeared in a video entitled "With Magic, We Can" with the tagline "36 hands, 18 magcians, 1 purpose". And that purpose: to let some magic into the homes of fellow Singaporeans, even as they continue to stay home during the Circuit Breaker, and to show their gratitude for healthcare workers.
Another magician, Jeremy Tan, reflects in his Instagram post: "It’s been quite a journey for all of us entertainers. Events, Entertainment & Cruise Ships were hit hard. We have no shows, definitely no income. But in our small little way, we hope to put a smile on your faces. We are all in this together & let’s hope this ends soon and we can go back to performing for you again."
Watch how a pack of cards makes its way through the video (produced by magician Cassidy Lee, and edited by magician Jeremy Tan) below, transforming along the way into a coin, then hand sanitiser, then a Rubik's cube - it's, well, magical!
Enjoy videos of some of the 18 nimble-fingered individuals who participated, just to give you a taste of their brand of magic.
