International Dance Day: Singapore Dancers Step It Up
Before we continue, yes, there's such a thing as International Dance Day. And it's celebrated every 29 April, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.
Created in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute ITI (UNESCO's main partner for the performing arts), the international day of observance is meant to "celebrate dance, revel in the universality of this art form, cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers, and bring people together with a common language - dance".
Said local dancer Chan Chao Peng (or CP) when we spoke to him last October: "Dance allows me to enter a space to express myself, and use my body to create shapes and movements that are representative of what I feel."
To celebrate International Dance Day and the wealth of local talent that exists here, we got CP to pick nine other local dancers and performers to join him in communicating their innermost emotions without the use of words.

So if the CB is getting to you and you need to get some blood pumping, take a break, turn up the music (or not) and get your groove on. It's International Dance Day! Shake and shimmy, do the Floss, do the Shoot, whatever.
