Saving The Forests, One Plantable Candle At A Time
There's something delightfully 'hygge' about plants and candles. So imagine how intrigued we were when we found out about candles that you can repurpose into plants once you're done using them. Sounds like a perfect "treat yourself" weekend purchase, considering that tomorrow (June 5) is World Envrionment Day!
Pass It On, the brainchild of local entrepreneur Michelle Chow, promotes climate change awareness through beautiful products. Their mission? To combat carbon emissions by planting more trees. For every plantable candle sold, a donation will be made to the Eden Forestation Project to plant 10 trees in West Papua, Indonesia.
According to their tree tracker, they've planted 22,740 trees, with a target to plant 250,000.
Pass It On's candles are made of 100% soy wax and do not contain any dyes, parabens, paraffin or phthalates. The pots are designed to function as plant holders. Even the box is made of corrugated cardboard that is Forest Stewardship Council-certified, meaning no forests were harmed in production.
Now here's the fun part: candle lids are made of biodegradable paper embedded with a seed mix that includes black-eyed susan, sesame, basil, and wildflowers. Once you're done burning your candle, clean the pot, tear up the label, burrow the pieces in the soil pellets provided, and water it. In two to three weeks, you'll start to see the shoots sprouting.
