“Resident Evil Village” Tops Out List Of Games Out Soon

We’re fast approaching the middle of the year, and what a treat May has in store for gamers out there – “Resident Evil Village” (or “Resident Evil 8”) has been much anticipated since we first laid eyes on the giant vampire lady, Lady Dimitrescu. Also, if you’re into team multiplayer games like “Overwatch”, “Hood: Outlaws and Legends” is a fresh take on the genre that you might want to check out.

Resident Evil Village
PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One X|S, PC

Release date: 7 May

In short: The Die-Die Must-Buy Game

The eighth mainline game in the survival horror series Resident Evil is our must-play game of the month. Ethan Winters, the protagonist of Resident Evil 7 must rescue his daughter from a mysterious castle after she was apparently kidnapped by Resident Evil mainstay character Chris Redfield. Who is Lady Dimitrescu, the giant vampire lady (who has been a meme since she was unveiled) and what does she want with Ethan’s family?

Hood: Outlaws & Legends
PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One X|S, PC

Release date: 10 May

In short: Live out your “Money Heist” fantasy

In “Hood: Outlaws & Legends”, you and your friends play a band of thieves trying to steal treasure. Not only do you have to sneak around or fight against guards and their leader, the sheriff to get to said treasure, there’s also another player-controlled rival gang with their eyes on the prize. Or you could let them snag the treasure first while you lay in wait to ambush them as they try to make their escape. There are four classes to choose from in this multiplayer heist action game, with plenty of character customisation options.

New Pokémon Snap
Nintendo Switch

Release date: 30 Apr

In short: Gotta snap ’em all

Yes, I know this game is coming out on the last day of April but surely, this counts as one for May? This is a must-play game for Pokémon fans, as the game switches the catch mechanic for a photo-journalistic approach. Explore beaches, jungles, deserts and more as you take photos of Pokémon in their natural habitats. Watch Pokémon interact with each other in 3D unlike any other Pokémon game before. As a huge Pokémon fan, it’s the best I’ve seen a Pokémon being depicted in any game to-date.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition
PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One X|S, PC

Release date: 14 May

In short: Play out a science fiction movie

If you haven’t played this epic science fiction tale before, now’s your chance. This remaster compiles the entire Mass Effect trilogy and all DLC so you won’t be missing out. As Commander Shepard, you navigate interstellar travel, combat, and build relationships with other characters—every decision you make will have consequences in the story.

Knockout City
PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch

Release date: 21 May

In short: Dodgeball on steroids

“Knockout City” is a 3-on-3 dodgeball battle game with plenty of twists. You can curve the ball, or even be the ball. There’re plenty of ways you and your friends can combine attacks and outsmart opponents. The game is cross-play too, meaning you could be on the Nintendo Switch while your friends could be playing on the PS4. Climb up the rankings and unlock customization features which allow you to spice up your character further with new threads and rides.

Biomutant
PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, PC

Release date: 25 May

In short: Dark-themed “Kung Fu Panda”

Imagine you’re in the post-apocalyptic world of “Kung Fu Panda” - that’s the setting for “Biomutant”, a third-person action RPG. Create your character from one of a number of anthropomorphic animals available, and their looks will change depending on how you allocate their stats, for example, a bigger head if it has high intelligence, or a buff look if you allocate more stats to strength. As you traverse the open world, playing through the storyline and steadily upgrading your skills, your look will also change along the way. The game has been delayed, so fingers crossed that it makes the 25 May date.

Famicom Detective Club
Nintendo Switch

Release date: 14 May

In short: For the Detective Conan aficionados

Do you like bingeing on murder mystery documentaries on Netflix? This game should be down your alley. Take on the role of a detective and solve crimes in “Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir” and “Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind”. In “The Missing Heir”, you’ll need to solve a murder mystery set in a haunted village while battling with amnesia. In the other game, you need to investigate a hantu rumour in a school. These games were first released in Japan in the ’80s, but they have been revamped and upgraded for their first English debut.

Miitopia
Nintendo Switch

Release date: 21 May

In short: Create avatars in your own world

Remember the Miis back on the Nintendo 3DS? If this is the first time you’re hearing about Mii - it’s an avatar you create that represents you, which was used in various Nintendo games. It’s not as prominently used for the Nintendo Switch now, but they are making a comeback in “Miitopia”. “Miitopia” is an RPG where you create all the characters, from your journeying hero group to the big bad baddie. It’s a light-hearted take on the RPG genre that’s easy for anyone to get into.
