Purr-fectly Cute: 200 Lucky Cats Come To Singapore

As if Japanese Lucky Cats couldn’t get any cuter, 200 local Institute of Technical Education (ITE) design school students have decorated them to look like our favourite Singapore icons: the Merlion, a traditional “ice cream uncle”, and an SQ Girl, to name a few.

From now till the 12th of August, you can visit Takashimaya to check out these ceramic cats, which will also be up for auction – if you want to adopt one of these patriotic kitties for yourself, you need only bid for it in real-time using a QR code. The department store also chose 20 cats to come alive using augmented reality technology from students at The Little Arts Academy.

Check out the exhibit for yourself the next time you’re in town – and in the meantime, squeal over some of our favourites in the gallery below.

And, oh yeah, we were lucky enough to be invited to the official opening of the event last evening (1 Aug 2019) and rub shoulders with guest of honour President Halimah Yacob.

So, of course we took the opportunity to create this video of our favourite Lucky Cats, some of which have been brought to life through augmented-reality technology (a collaboration with kids from The Little Arts Academy). Enjoy!
