Where To Shop, Eat, And Play This Weekend (22-24 Nov)

The year is winding down, but the parties and shopping are in full swing. From a gift market with crafts by people with disabilities, to annual staples like the Affordable Art Fair and the Singapore International Film Festival, here’s what’s worth checking out over the weekend.

1. i’mable Gift Market

Want to give meaningful gifts over the festive season? For one day only, the Enabling Village will host the i’mable Gift Market, SG Enable’s initiative to promote and market handcrafted items from artistically talented persons with disabilities.  Shop for clay necklaces and bracelets by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore, or pick up a cosy marbled mug by the Down Syndrome Association. You can also check out batik pencil cases from Bizlink, whose proceeds will support vocational training and employment for persons with disabilities.

That’s only a smidgen of what’s available – workshops, fringe activities, and even snack booths abound. So go down yourself and check it out for a good cause.

6. 2219: Futures Imagined

We have all been asked the question, where do you see yourself 10 years down the road?

The ArtScience Museum’s latest exhibition, 2219: Futures Imagined, takes this further and shows us where Singapore could be 200 years down the road. From blossoming cherry tree projections and underground city mock-ups to glass trees and jellyfish, the exhibit showcases artists’ depiction of what the future would look like from 2019 up till 2219, while highlighting the impact of climate change.
