What To Do This Weekend (18 to 20 Oct 2024)

Ready for the weekend? Here's what you can look forward to this week.

1. The Mongol Khan

Catch the Asian premiere of The Mongol Khan, a theatrical spectacle that combines song, dance, acrobatics and puppetry.

Adapted from a three-act tragedy by Lkhagvasuren Bavuu, the play tells the fictional story of the ruler Archug Khan, set in the ancient realm of Mongolia some 2,000 years past.

Two Queens, Tsetser and Gerel, both bore sons in close succession, yet a cloud of doubt hovered over the paternity of Tsetser’s child. The estranged relationship between Tsetser and Archug Khan fueled suspicions, and it was later revealed that her son was the result of an affair with Egereg, the trusted advisor.

A legendary tale where adventure meets ambition, and history is forged in the fires of conquest, The Mongol Khan will have you on the edge of your seat as you're transported into an unforgettable world of epic drama and history.

Do note that certain dates will see the show performed in Mongolian rather than English. All performances feature surtitles in both English and Mandarin.

2. Por Por's Big Fat Surprise Wedding

Singapore Repertory Theatre's dinner spectacle, Por Por's Big Fat Surprise Wedding, is back from 19 October to 1 November, taking place at One Farrer Hotel.

It's a wedding celebration hosted by the Chan family, but they aren't especially happy. Firstly, the bride is their 70 year-old matriarch, Por Por. Secondly, they've never met the groom. In fact, nobody knows who he is, and Por Por declares he will only be revealed at the wedding dinner itself.

It's all very exciting, but can somebody truly be in love with this sweet old lady, or is this a classic Crimewatch love scam?

It's up to Por Por's righteous insurance agent son, Francis, his hapless civil servant wife, Rainy, and their precocious teen, Prudentia, to save the whole family from possible disgrace… unless her friends - restauranteur Ajeet, KTV king Adam and polymath helper Flordeliza - can keep Por Por's plan on track.

You won't want to miss this night of hilarious fun while feasting on a four-course culinary experience.
