Mother's Day: A Salute To Awesome Mums In Our SAF

They not only look after their families, they look after the country as part of our military defence. These mums are so cool, they’re hot.

MAJ Khoo Teh Lynn

Having got the bug for flying in her teens, she became the RSAF’s first female fighter pilot and was inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame in 2014 – the same year she became a mum. Check out our piece on "Awesome Women Of Singapore", a book released by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations, in which MAJ Khoo is one of the 160 women featured.

ME3 Sanhti d/o Thanapal

If you need help in an emergency, call her. She helped in the SAR mission for MH370 and heads the Air Ops Section in the Air Operations & Systems Expert (AOSX) School at AWTI.

"I need to juggle life and time management, and I think the Air Force taught me well - how to do time management, and I learnt a lot from it," she says in this video.

"I've been fortunate enough to have Commanding Officers who have been incredibly supportive and who have enabled me to achieve that exclusive balance between work and family."

3WO Winnie Oh

If someone in your unit says, “my mother can run faster than you”, their mum could be this Army combat engineer and SAFSA sprinter. The mum of three picked up four gold medals at the 2018 Singapore Masters Open Track and Field Championships!

SSG Venice Ng

This assistant trainer in Signals Institute became a mum (to little Harley) last year. She keeps the comms going by training signal operators to operate signal sets as well as the Battlefield Management System for the Terrex.

SV1 Kelly Latimer

You probably know her as a host/presenter or you’ve seen her face in ads, but this mum of two also knows all about paying it forward – she signed up for the SAF Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) because she wanted give back to the nation’s defence.

As an infomedia volunteer, she had to cover Instagram stories for the BMT enlistment that took place last year amid all the new safety measures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The parents weren't going to Tekong anymore, so there was a lot of separation between the boys who were going in and their parents. So, we were trying to bridge that gap through social media. Parents were actually able to see what their sons were going through," says Kelly in this video, where she describes one of her most meaningful deployments with the SAFVC.
