Where To Shop, Eat And Play This Weekend (25-27 Oct)

Good news: This weekend is a long weekend! Unfortunately, it’s also the last long weekend in 2019. Why not check out what’s happening around Singapore and make the most of your leisure time?

1. ACM After Dark: Tales From Beyond

PHOTO: ASIAN CIVILISATIONS MUSEUM

The Asian Civilisations Museum is hosting a special exhibit filled with spooky thrills of a different kind. Inspired by the famous 18th-century Chinese book Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, this edition of ACM After Dark features experiential storytelling in the dark, along with a slew of other thrilling activities like paranormal talks and even a fire dance performance.

Everyone loves a good treasure hunt, right? Well, how about an after-dark treasure hunt that makes use of AR technology? Sounds interesting? Then head down to Sentosa this weekend and start searching, because the first person (or team, if you decide to ally with family and friends) to find a glow-in-the-dark token will win $1000 in cash!

3. Heather

PHOTO: ADEEB & SHAI

This fringe theatre production is both timely and thought-provoking, weaving a gripping narrative that stays with you long after the show ends. Heather tells the story of a wildly popular series of children’s books and their reclusive author. But when a shocking truth about the writer comes to light, the reputation of these once-loved stories is called into question too as the line between narrative and reality begins to blur. At the end of the day, the play leaves one wondering: Where do we draw the line between art and artist? Can a good story from a bad person still shine on its own?

There’s nothing quite like the thrilling experience of watching late-night movies. Don’t worry though, these aren’t horror movies that will keep you from sleeping afterwards. Instead, this year’s line-up contains three enthralling films that aim to delight: American comedy-drama Empire Records, French drama The Chorus, and Indian musical drama Secret Superstar.

5. Disney: Magic of Animation

Whether you’re a child at heart or a parent whose kids won’t stop singing Let it Go, this enchanting exhibition will draw you into a world of innovation and creativity. Coming to Southeast Asia for the first time, the exhibition showcases over 500 masterful art pieces, including original sketches and concept art curated by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library. From Disney’s first cartoon Steamboat Willie to classics like The Lion King and even upcoming films like Frozen 2, there’s no end to the magic that springs to life in this gallery.
